We all know that Bengaluru is colourful and in the last few days it has become flowerful. On the account of 68th Independence Day, the beautiful Lalbagh is decorated with variety of exotic flowers and is attracting people across the world.
Today let’s know few interesting things about this year’s flower show at Lalbagh and it’s history.
1. Lalbagh was originally started as a 40-acre private garden of Mysore ruler Hyder Ali. In the year 1760, it was further developed by his son Tipu Sultan.
2. The garden was expanded exponentially by British and Indian horticulturists to include the present 240 acres and was declared to be a Botanical Garden in 1856
3. The flower show was started about 102 years ago by Bengaluru and horticulture enthusiasts who were part of the Mysore Horticulture Society
4. This years’ main attraction is the replica of the Bangalore palace created using 200,000 Dutch roses, apart from the 5 Maharajas of Mysuru made using flowers.
5. Approximately Rs 1.2 crore ($200,000) is being spent on this edition of the flower show. The department officials are expecting Rs. 50 lakh profit this year as they expect nearly 5 lakh visitors to flock at the event.
6. 40 CCTVs, hidden cameras and drone cameras are used for security purpose.
7. Nearly 250 farmers across the State would display rare and unique farm produce to demonstrate the emerging horticulture technologies.
8. This year, the flower show would use over 200 varieties of flowers and 20,000 pots for decoration.
9. A photo gallery, “Raja Darshana” would bring in rare collections from the Royal family’s album of memories.
10. Earlier, the shows were called “Summer Show” and “Winter Show”. However, since 1951, these shows are being synchronized with Republic Day and Independence Day.
