Mahabharata, one of the greatest battles that was ever witnessed on this globe. As Indians, we are pretty much aware of the story behind the war through word of mouth, TV serials and books. However today let’s explore some of the controversial things about Mahabharatha which is beyond your knowledge.
1. Ekalavya is the cousin of Krishna and he was the one who killed Dronacharya in the battlefield
As per mythology, Ekalavya is one of the uncles of Krishna who was lost in the forest and then adopted by the group of Huntsmen. We all know the story of Ekalavya and Dronacharya. Later when the thumb of Ekalavya was taken by Dronacharya as the token of Guru Dakshina, the little boy was blessed as the reincarnation of Draupadi’s brother, Drusthadhyumna who actually kills Guru Dronacharya in the Kurukshetra war.
2. Golden arrows – The strategist Krishna
Once, Duryodhana was saved by Arjuna on Bheeshma’s request. This was an insult to Duryodhana and out of embarrassment, he gives a boon to Arjuna that he can ask anything as a gift from him. On knowing this, Krishna advises Arjuna to ask the five golden arrows from Duryodhana before the battle. This gave a major blow to Kauravas and Krishna turned out to be a diplomatic again.
3. Duryodhana was supposed to be the first recipient of Bhagavadgita
We all know that Krishna preached the Bhagavadgita to Arjuna in the battlefield but much before that Krishna tried to narrate the same to Duryodhana in a personal meeting. Look at the fate, he rejected it and in turn abused Krishna.
4. Sahadeva ate the toe of his father’s dead body
It is said that Pandu’s body was not cremated. He had instructed his sons to feast on his dead body and not to leave a single tissue for scavenging. Sahadeva tempted to his father’s instruction and ate the toe of the dead body.
5. What was fishy in the Dice game between Pandavas and Kauravas
Why did Pandavas lose the dice game? Why did every Die were falling as per Shakuni’s wish? The reason is that the dies used in the game were made of the backbone of Shakuni’s dead father.
6. Bheema sacrificed his son to save the life of Arjuna
Karna, the most powerful warrior from Kaurava troop had a powerful weapon by the name “Brahmashtra”. Karna was waiting for an opportunity to kill Arjuna with the help of this weapon. On knowing this, Krishna gets the giant Gatodgacha who is the son of Bheema to attack the Kauravas in a massive way. Gatodgacha was so powerful and gigantic that Kauravas were not in a position to face him. Fainted and dumb Duryodhana orders Karna to use the Brahmashtra on Gatodgacha. Gatodgacha dies and saves the life of Arjuna as Brahmashtra can be used only once in a lifetime.
7. Mystic Krishna’s death
There are a lot of stories behind the death of Lord Krishna and the curse of Gandhaari is one among them. Also, it is said that Vaali of Ramayana who was killed by Rama takes revenge in the Dwapara Yuga by shooting an arrow to Krishna’s toe thinking that it is the face of a deer.
Really the history is mystic. Thank you
